An individual retirement arrangement, or IRA, is a personal savings plan that allows the saver to set aside money for retirement, while offering some tax advantages. An IRA may contain mutual funds, stocks, bonds, or other types of investments. Contributions may be tax-deductible and the money in the IRA, including earnings, is not taxed until distributed. IRA's cannot be owned jointly.
