National Small Business Trends
Small businesses continued to increase employee headcount. The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, clocked in at 10,361 at the end of November. That was up 0.4% from the October close, and the Hiring Index is up 3.6% for the year.Small business paychecks, which have trended downward all year, were slightly down in November. The SurePayroll Pay Index was at 966 at the end of October and was at 962 at the end of November, representing a 0.4% drop. Year to date, the SurePayroll Pay Index is down 3.8% for the year. Our hope had been that paychecks would turn around in November but we didn't see that happen.
