Regional Small Business Trends
On a regional basis, small business size is trending down in the Midwest, South and West year-to-date. The Northeast is still on track to be the regional success story for 2005. Hiring there is up 7.0% year-to-date. It's safe to say that the Northeast is what's keeping the nation in positive territory on hiring this year.
On the salary front, average small business paychecks are up in the South and the Midwest year-to-date. Salaries are still trending down in the Northeast and West.
