Regional Small Business Trends
Small businesses employee headcount decreased in January in the Midwest and the West in December, but businesses grew in the Northeast and South. Looking at average paycheck size, only the Northeast and the South were up in January relative to December. In January, relative to what we saw at the end of December, paychecks in the Midwest and the West were trending downward.
The South and Northeast were the only regions that were up in January both in terms of employee counts and paycheck sizes.
