On a regional basis, small business size is trending down in the Midwest, South and West year to date. The Northeast is still on track to be the regional success story for 2005. Hiring there is up 8.7% year-to-date. The Midwest has had the steepest regional decline year to date — down 3.6%.
On the salary front, average small business paychecks are up in the South and the Midwest year to date. Salaries are still trending down in the Northeast and West.
