National Small Business Trends

The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended January at 10,466, exactly where the index stood at the end of December.

That’s our second straight month of flat hiring in the small business economy.

Small business salaries, in contrast, are on the move. Small business paychecks were up in January, for the fifth month in a row. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 966 at the end of January, an 18-point increase from December.
