National Small Business Trends
The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended March at 10,453, eight points down from where the index stood at the end of February.
That’s our seventh straight month of negative or flat hiring in the small business economy.
Small business salaries, in contrast, are still on the rise. Small business paychecks were up in March, for the seventh month in a row. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 973 at the end of March, a three point increase from February.
