National Small Business Trends
The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended May at 10,435, five points down from where the index stood at the end of April.
That’s our ninth straight month of negative or flat hiring in the small business economy.
Small business salaries, in contrast, are still on the rise. Small business paychecks were up in May, for the ninth month in a row. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 983 at the end of May, a one point increase from April.
