National Small Business Trends

The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended November at 10,427, down five points from where the index stood at the end of October.

The hiring trend this year has been one of decreasing staff sizes. Of the eleven months year to data in 2006, only three months have had increases in hiring: January, June and November.

Small business salaries remain on the rise. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 1,018 at the end of November, a seven-point increase from October.

Of the eleven months year to data in 2006, we have seen salaries increasing every single month.
