National Small Business Trends
The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended October at 10,432, down seven points from where the index stood at the end of September.
The hiring trend this year has been one of decreasing staff sizes. Of the ten months year to data in 2006, only three months have had increases in hiring: January, June and October.
Small business salaries remain on the rise. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 1,011 at the end of October, a four-point increase from September.
Of the ten months year-to-date in 2006, we have seen salaries increasing every single month.
