The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended September at 10,439, up eight points from where the index stood at the end of August.
The hiring trend this year has been one of decreasing staff sizes, so September’s results represent a turnaround. Of the nine months year to date in 2006, only three months have had increases in hiring: January, June and September.
Small business salaries remain on the rise. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 1007 at the end of September, a six-point increase from August.
Of the nine months year to date in 2006, we have seen salaries increasing every single month.
