2007 August National Small Business Trends
Hiring increased in August, marking our ninth straight month of increased hiring in the small business economy.
The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended August at 10,754, up 38 points from where the index stood at the end of July.
Small business paychecks bumped up slightly in August, after a flat (barely positive) July. We expected a decline in salaries this month, but instead we've extended the streak to twenty-four straight months of rising salaries. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 1,051 at the end of August, up three points from the end of July.
