September 2007 National Small Business Trends

Small business hiring rose in September.

The SurePayroll Hiring Index ended the month at 10,788, a 34-point increase (0.32%) from August.

The small business economy is on a roll. This was our tenth straight month of increased hiring in the small business economy.

The national SurePayroll Hiring Index, which measures the number of employees within small businesses, ended September at 10,788, up 34 points from where the index stood at the end of August.

With this increase, we've extended the streak to twenty-five straight months of rising salaries. The SurePayroll Pay Index clocked in at 1,053 at the end of September, up two points from the end of August.
