March 2008 National Small Business Trends

Small business hiring rose in March and ended the month up 0.29%.

The SurePayroll Hiring Index ended the month at 10,990, a 31-point increase from February.

On a national basis, this was our 16th straight month of increased hiring in the small business economy, and this is the highest the Hiring Index has been since its inception in January 2004.

The SurePayroll Pay Index was 1,060 at the end of March, dropping a single point from the end of February.

After an impressive 29 straight months of rising salaries, we have now had two consecutive months of declining small business salaries.
