How to Network Like a Star

There is a big difference between networking and networking like a star. If you take the right approach, you will soon find that your strategy is paying off and that you are making major gains.

Regardless of your industry, there are a few networking tips that can put you on the right path to great success. Here are three ideas to implement:

1. Face to face networking remains important. Even in today’s day and age of advanced technology, there are still times when you need to meet with others face to face.

There is nothing wrong with networking online, such as through social media (LinkedIn in particular), but there is no replacement for meeting with people in person. This allows you to make a solid, personal connection.

2. Know who you are networking with. Even if you are meeting a person for the first time, with no prior knowledge of who they are, you need to dig deep early in the conversation. Who do they work for? What is their job title? How can you help them? How can they help you?

3. Follow up. Attending a networking event can be beneficial in many ways. Be diligent in following up with every person you had a conversation with. Give them a quick call. Send through a brief email. Do anything you can to take your connection to the next level. This will keep your relationship moving in the right direction, hopefully leading to a business opportunity.

As you can see, it does not take much to network like a star. You may be intimidated and shy at first, but once you dig in and realize the benefits there is no stopping you.
